Flickr ha aggiunto una funzione di geotagging alle foto. Avevo una decina di foto con le informazioni su latitudine e longitudine e le ha importate senza problemi.

Monday, August 28th, 2006Here are some features (in particular order) I would like my next phone had:
- It has to offer better photo quality then my N90. Possibly 3.2 mp sensor and optical zoom.
- Wi-fi access
- High speed UMTS access running at 1.8 Mbps (and both EDGE and UMTS)
- Hi-res display at least as good as Nokia N90 display
- It must be a smartphone
Nokia N93 has many of these things (except for high speed UMTS) but the photo quality does not appear to be as good in real usage as it should be from the specs.
Nokia N73 lacks wi-fi.
Sony Ericcson K800 has the best camera on the market but is not a smartphone.
Switching browser
Saturday, August 26th, 2006I am changing my web browsing habit and starting to use Camino instead of Apple default browser, Safari.
Mainly for four reasons:
- Many italian sites do not work in Safari. They used to be optimized (which means viewable only with) IE and now are starting to support Mozilla, as well. This is an improvement but it will take still some years for them to support Safari
- Many pages with heavy AJAX stuff works only in Mozilla (I am thinking of Google betas here). Also the Wordpress Admin Page works better: you get the visual HTML editor.
- Camino has better keyboard shortcuts. Switching between open windows follows Mac OS X conventions and Safari does not (at least with an italian keyboard layout)
- Camino warns you before closing a window with multiple tabs open as well as before closing multiple windows
- I prefer Camino way of autocompleting urls (on request vs inline). In safari I often go to a page which is not what I meant
Some annoyances I found in using Camino:
- Flickering of cursor in some text boxes when posting in forums.
- No keyboard shortucuts for bookmark bar items like in Safari
- Camino has no autodetection of RSS/Atom feeds
- Sometimes loading complex pages Camino hangs for a couple of minutes. Safari is more stable.

Friday, August 25th, 2006L’unica funzionalità interessante della nuova Canon Digital Rebel XTi è la pulizia automatica del sensore. La polvere sul sensore è una vera piaga per chi possiede una reflex digitale. Non cambierò macchina fotografica per questo, comunque.
Batteria iBook G4
Friday, August 25th, 2006A quanto pare sono miracolato perché la batteria del mio iBook G4 non ha ancora preso fuoco. A quanto sembra è compresa tra quelle difettose che verranno sostituite da Apple. Anzi, visto che non c’è bisogno di rimandare a loro la vecchia batteria, mi ritroverò con una batteria di ricambio che nei viaggi lunghi non fa mai schifo.
Aggiornamento: Apple ha aggiunto una nota sul sito e pare che la mia batteria non sia difettosa.
